Broad bright red color, fairly dark for Sangiovese (due to the long maceration, apparently); complex aroma and flavor of cherries, tea leaf, spices, a hint of mint. On the palate, this has the weight and beefy structure of a Riserva, very long and complex. Cries out for bistecca alla fiorentina.

Dried cherry and coffee grounds meet up with crushed rocks and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on the nose, while on the palate, wild strawberries and cherries take over, with a dynamic momentum provided by abundant acidity and a squeeze of orange.

The 2019 Chianti Classico Vigna Vaggiolata is a very hard wine to taste. Piercing in its intensity, the 2019 comes across as dried out, angular and aggressive in feel. This is a perplexing showing.
